Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils from plants (flowers, herbs or trees) as an integrative approach to health.
Essential oils have been used for therapeutic purposes for nearly 6,000 years. The ancient Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used them in cosmetics, perfumes and medicines. Essential oils have been commonly used for spiritual, therapeutic, hygienic and ritualistic purposes.
Essential oils are most often used by inhalation or by applying a diluted form to the skin. Many essential oils are used in aromatherapy, including those of chamomile, geranium, lavender, tea tree, lemon, ginger, cedarwood, and bergamot.
